Alpha Maximus: Chapter 19

We run hand in hand out the front of the pack house. Five men are chasing us. They shift into their wolf form.

‘No matter what you are about to see, Sally, you keep running, okay,’ I tell her.

‘Umm… Okay,’ she says, running by my side.

‘They are after me, Sally. So I’m going to run in a different direction so you can get away,’ I tell her.

‘But what about you? I don’t want them to get you either!’ she cries.

‘Don’t worry about me, Sally, just keep running, okay?’

I lift my dress over my head, toss it aside, and shift into my wolf. Sally screams at the sight of me shifting, and thankfully, it makes her run even faster through the field. The wolves follow me through the field away from Sally. I duck under low branches and leap over rocks until I collide with something hard. I whimper from the impact and see Alpha Tate snarling at me in his wolf form. He grabs my throat again until I shift back into human form and black out again.

I wake up in the bedroom again. Alpha Tate is sitting in the armchair watching me. I quickly grab the bed sheet to cover myself and glare at him.

He stands up, rolls his eyes, and throws a dress at me. I take it and put it on straight away.

There’s a knock at the door, ‘What?’ Alpha Tate yells.

‘It’s Alpha Liam. Something has happened. You need to come downstairs for an urgent meeting,’ he says.

Alpha Tate grabs my hand, pulling me behind him as we go downstairs. The room is full of people looking worried and chatting amongst themselves.

We sit at the end of the table next to Alpha Liam. ‘So, what’s urgent that half the pack is here in this room?’ Alpha Tate asks.

‘Well, you know how we’re expecting other Alpha’s to be here to fight against Alpha Maximus, and they still haven’t shown up. I’ve just had some of my men return from some of the other packs only to find the Alpha’s haven’t turned up because most of them are all dead.’

Nearly everyone in the room stiffens, and the worry intensifies.

‘What do you mean most of them are all dead? Who are the new Alphas?’ Alpha Tate asks.

‘Alpha Maximus is the Alpha of more packs now… he has been killing the Alphas one by one, which means he could be here by tonight or tomorrow. It appears to be only us left to kill him, and we know it won’t be that easy now,’ Alpha Liam says.

I can’t hide my happiness. I’m sitting here with a big grin on my face. I knew Alpha Maximus would come for me.

‘As long as we have Hope, we will have the upper hand,’ Alpha Tate smiles, wiping the big grin from my face.

‘Okay, everyone, prepare yourselves in case he arrives tonight. Alpha Liam. Do you think we can organise some Wolfsbane?’ Alpha Tate asks.

‘Yes, I’ll get onto it right away,’ Alpha Liam answers.

Wolfsbane, again? These cowards. I glare at Alpha Liam with hatred in my eyes.

Alpha Maximus

On entering the Dawnbury territory, I can see Sally running in the distance. ‘Sally! Sally!’ I call out.

She runs towards me, ‘Maximus!’ she shouts back.

I run, meeting her halfway, ‘Are you hurt? Where’s Hope?’ I ask.

Sally is leaning over with her hands on her knees, trying to catch her breath. ‘Hope. Wolf. Ran. You won’t believe it. A wolf!’ she pants.

I can’t understand what she is saying.

‘Sally! What happened?’ I growl, getting Sally’s full attention.

She stands up straight and stares at me, ‘’You won’t believe this! Hope and I were running, and she turned into a wolf!’ Sally exclaims.

‘Where is she?’

‘I don’t know. I think the men caught her again. Aren’t you concerned she’s a wolf?’ she asks me.

I shift into Chaos, and Sally screams. I place my hand over her mouth to stop her screaming and shift back into human form. ‘Sally, everyone you were just around is a Werewolf! Now show me the direction to the pack house.’

Sally’s arms are shaking as she points toward the pack house. I grab her wrist and pull her behind me, running to the pack house.

‘Wands! Get down, Sally! There are pack warriors spread out over there. I can take them on, but I don’t want them to alert Alpha Tate that I’m here yet,’ I whisper.

Sally nervously nods and crouches down behind me. We creep around to the side of the pack house and poke our heads from behind a boulder to see Alpha Liam out the front of the pack house. He is talking to pack warriors and pack members.

They all scan the area like they are looking for someone. ‘I think they know I’m here,’ I mumble.

I shift into Chaos and let out a ferocious howl. I can hear Sally quivering behind me. I run straight towards Alpha Liam, preparing to strike. He turns with a grin and crosses his arms as his warriors stand before him like a wall.

I strike my claws across their throats, killing them, only to notice about fifty warriors on either side of the pack house run out, surrounding me in a circle. ‘Wands!’ I curse.

Half of them shift into wolves and lunge toward me, biting and swiping. The others stand behind them, waiting for their moment to shift and fight.

‘Oh, look, Hope, Alpha Maximus has come to save you! Too bad he won’t survive!’ Alpha Tate laughs.

He has Hope pressed against his chest with a knife held at her throat. I snarl and break a wolf’s neck throwing him into the pack members.

I’m covered in multiple bites, wounds, scratches and cuts.

‘Maximus!’ Hope screams.

I continue to fight my way through the warriors. There must be at least thirty dead wolves lying around. I’m getting closer to Hope. A spear flies through the air. I catch it in time a centimetre from my right eye and immediately throw it back with full force direction it came. It pierces through Alpha Liam’s chest. Everyone stands still and stares at Alpha Liam, gasping for air as he falls to his knees, holding the spear in his chest. Blood dribbles out his mouth as he processes what I have just done. He then falls back, taking his last breath. His men are now my men.

I shift back into human form, ‘As the new Alpha of the Silent Howl pack, I order you to kill all members of the Blackwood pack!’ I shout.

Alpha Tate growls, pulling the knife closer to Hope’s neck. We glare at each other while my new pack members and his now fight to the death.

I need to kill Alpha Tate without Hope getting hurt. Unexpectedly Sally exits the front of the pack house holding a frying pan like a baseball, creeps up behind Alpha Tate and swings it with all her strength across the back of Alpha Tate’s head.

Alpha Tate yells out in pain and turns, letting go of Hope.

Hope runs straight toward me and leaps into my arms. While Alpha Tate grabs Sally and thrusts his knife into her stomach, ‘NO!’ I yell.

Hope turns to see what has happened and gasps in shock. I shift back into Chaos and run toward Alpha Tate. We roll onto the ground as he shifts into his wolf. We fight ferociously.

Sam comes running toward me as I fight Alpha Tate. Hope is on her knees, healing Sally’s stab wound. Once Sally is healed. Hope shifts and runs toward him.

Going in for the kill, I grab Alpha Tate’s neck and rip it open while Sam injects Wolfsbane into my arm.

Storm jumps onto him and bites into his neck, ending his life.

The surviving pack members are now all mine. I shift back into human form. Everything is swaying.

Hope is running toward me, ‘Maximus!’ she shouts as I fall to the ground.
