CHAOS: Chapter 76

SOFIA

“Jax! Wait!” I shout down the stairs just as he opens the front door.

With a sudden halt, he pivots towards me, his eyes filled with a chilling rage, while I swiftly descend the steps to meet him.

With each step I take towards him, his fingers tighten on the handle. To my left, I catch a glimpse of Lara slapping an unconscious Alexei on the floor, and Anna, in a state of panic, tightly bound to a chair while Nikolai ominously watches over her.

“Are they going to—”

Jax shakes his head.

“She is learning her lesson. She knows not to come back to Vegas.”

That’s one thing off my conscience, I suppose.

“Where are you going? What did she say?”

The muscles in his jaw constrict, like a silent manifestation of his inner turmoil.

“It was all Brody. He had me drugged and it was all a set up. He paid her to take Maeve from us.” I can hear the fury rising in his deep voice with every word, and I close the distance between us.

I’m angry they did this to us, and that I’ve lost a friend.

I’m devastated this happened to Jax.

That unmistakable look in his eye reveals his clear destination.

“You’re going on your own?” I tilt my head as my heart races.

Roughly, he cups my face and tilts my chin up, his intense gaze locking onto mine.

“I’m going to finish this, Sof. No one threatens our daughter. He tried to take everything from me. It’s time I returned the favor. I’ll be fine, sweetheart.”

My bottom lip trembles. “Just make sure you come back to us, Jax. Please.”

He presses his lips over mine to silence me.

“I can’t stop until he’s gone. I’m doing this to protect our family, baby. Our baby girl. You two are all that matter to me. I’d sacrifice everything in a heartbeat for you two. It would be the easiest decision I’d ever have to make.”

As I shake my head, his grip on my cheeks tightens.

“But, I will be coming home. I love you,” he says and kisses me again, this time harder, before he pulls away.

He cuts off any chance for me to respond as he slams the door shut. Leaving me staring at the wall with tears streaming down my face.
