HANS: Chapter 114

Cassie

Less than a minute after I get into position, the main door flings open.

I can’t see it; I can only hear it bang against the wall. What I don’t hear is the sound of it closing again.

Heavy footsteps enter the office, and I hold my breath.

Please don’t let this be a mistake.

The man stomps to the bathroom door.

It rattles in the frame.

“You think a little door will stop me?” He chuckles. “This is just foreplay.”

There’s a loud thud as he slams into the door.

I have to slap my empty hand over my mouth to keep from screaming.

Fear courses through my veins.

I’ve never been more scared in my whole life.

I don’t want to be alone with this man.

There’s a second hit, and the man grunts.

I lower my hand and pull in a deep breath.

A third hit is accompanied by the sound of wood splintering.

“Come out, come out, wherever you are,” he taunts, stepping past the wreckage of the bathroom door.

And that’s when I climb out from under the desk and run as fast as I can for the open door.

My bare feet slap against the floor as adrenaline spikes through my body.

The man shouts something, having seen me, but I don’t look back.

I want to close the office door behind me. I want to lock him inside. But I can’t risk slowing down.

The piece of mirror shines in my hand as my arms pump, and I rush through the doorway into the hall.

And that’s when all hell breaks loose.

Somewhere below me, gunfire erupts.

A lot of gunfire erupts.

It’s so much. So loud.

I can also hear glass shattering and men screaming, and it’s the best sound I’ve ever heard in my life.

Because it means Hans is here.
