Hidden In Brutal Devotion: Chapter 24

Tia

I throw my pencil down on the table. There’s something missing from the image, but I can’t figure out what, and it’s driving me insane. I stare at the princess on the paper and the ring the prince holds. But every fairytale has the ring and the prince. I need mine to be different.

“Urgh!” I scream loudly and push away from the table.

I need a change of scenery; I need to get out of here and find something to do.

Finding myself outside Lucas’s office door, I’m about to knock when it opens. My breath hitches with his closeness, his cologne filling my nostrils. I tilt my head up toward him. His gray eyes bore into mine like he wants to eat me alive, and I lick my lips at the thought.

“Baby girl.” His chest rises rapidly, giving away his own excitement at our close proximity. He gently tucks a wave of my hair behind my ear.

His words breeze over me. “Did you want something?”

I want to scream, you. I want to wrap my arms around his neck and climb him like a goddamn tree. But I don’t want to freak him out. So instead, I opt for the easier option. “I’m bored.”

He quirks a brow in amusement. “Bored?”

“Yes. Bored, Lucas. I need to get out of here.” I wave my hand down the corridor toward the apartment door.

His eyebrows knit together as though deep in thought.

“Where’s Cole?”

“The gym. Training.” His clipped tone tells me he’s still sour.

“Can we go?”

“You want to go to the gym?”

“I want to go and watch Cole train, yes.”

His eyes travel up and down my body, and his lip tugs up at the side. “Let’s go.” He pulls his car keys from his pocket and takes my hand, leading me toward the apartment door.

“Should I change?”

Lucas stops walking and turns his head, scanning my body once again.

“No.”

I quickly flick my eyes down my outfit. Yoga pants and a cropped top. I shrug a shoulder, meh. Kind of gym wear.
