KING OF THE UNDERWORLD: Prologue 2

The dreams are back.

I’ve had the same ones for so long it’s become routine. Some nights I have only one; others the dreams are continuous. The Demon appears, tormenting me, and as the dream unfolds, the Demon turns into a man. He always looks the same way, dark tailored suit, sharp features, jet-black hair, and eyes as dark as the night sky.

The outcome is always the same as well. The Demon and the Man both claiming me as their own. His touch burning, setting my body aflame until it turns into a raging ball of fire. I knew I would be meeting this man, this Demon. Only the fates would decide when and how it would happen, and everyone knows how fickle the fates can be.

Last night, the dream started as it always has, but then it changed. The vision developed into individual figures I couldn’t make out. A dark ominous fog emerged, blending and combining the dreams until I couldn’t discern one from the other. Megan appeared before me, a smile upon her face and her eyes lit up with laughter. An arm appeared out of the fog, its hand closing around her mouth dragging her back into the darkness. I can still hear the manic laughter over the sound of Megan’s muffled cries, her arms reaching toward me, her terrified eyes beseeching me to save her. The panic I saw in her eyes was real. I took it for what it was, a warning.

Megan is in danger. There’s no telling when it will happen, but one thing I do know is none of us will be able to stop what is coming, no matter how hard we may try. Whoever is going to take her is powerful enough to do so without interference.

I have no choice in what I have to do. I know who the man was in my dreams. I’d known for a long time. I had chosen not to tell my family. But no matter how much they protest, it has to be me who approaches him when the time arises.

My siblings can’t help this time. Mia and Abigail must be left out of this, no matter how powerful they are to become.

Is this what the fates had foreseen? Is this what we have been training for so long? Only time will tell.

All I know is… it has to be me.
