Rejected To Be Your Second Chance: Chapter 12

Open The Gates!

I woke up the next morning feeling the headache grow stronger the second I opened my eyes.

Not the best way to wake up.

I groaned and turned around, Kade was gone and there was a note on my bedside table.

‘ Left to take care of some business. Come find me when you wake up’

I smiled and shook my head. A little giggle even escaped my lips and my stomach fluttered.

‘Alrighty then,’ I got up and got dressed.

I heard voices coming from the office down the corridor and it wasn’t an office as I had thought it would be. It was on the second floor where our room was, just around the corner of the open space was a glass wall with black linings and in there was an antique design to the whole office. They had so many different styles merged into one home.

The doors were open and Kade was on the phone, he was leaning his arms on the desk talking to someone on the other line and as he lifted his head and saw me, he waved me in.

‘I understand, I’ll have it ready by the end of the week but until then let’s just keep this under wraps.’

He nodded his head and said goodbye before hanging up.

‘did you sleep well?’ He asked me and stood up. I was standing in the middle of the office and turned on my feet as I took everything in. The big oakwood bookshelves covered one wall where the other had a big dresser in front of it with shelves attache do the wall and different artifacts the ordained the surface.

My chin dropped to the floor and my eyes rounded as my eyebrows shot up. I walked over to the round metal thing that sat on one of the shelves.

‘This is a destiny compass,’ my voice dragged out and I gently picked it up and looked at it closer. I turned it in my hand and saw the engraving on the back.

‘ To my friend, Santander’

‘Who gave this to you?’

Kade smiled behind me and grabbed the compass from my hand.

‘it was a gift to my grandfather from a Lycan king back in the day. He helped the king in many wars and in many business inquiries and as a thanks, he gave him one of his most prized possessions,’

The destiny compass is an old ancient artifact that I had only ever read about it in books. No one was even sure that existed but here it was. The shorter arm showed the direction like a compass but the longer arm showed your destiny, it guided you and helped might kings and warriors through time to reach their destinies.

‘It’s incredible,’ I gasped.

‘It is but it’s broken, hasn’t worked in years,’ Kade slowly placed the compass back on the shelf very carefully and turned to face me.

‘How come it doesn’t work?’ His lips pulled up in a smirk and his eyes glimmered.

‘It hasn’t worked ever since my grandfather went against his destiny. He didn’t follow it, he chose his own path which wasn’t the one he was meant to walk and after that, the compass stoped at the exact path he chose to abandon,’

‘What did he do?’ Kade smiled widely and brought down a framed picture of a man with grey hair and a thick grey beard, his arm was around the waist of a woman with silver strands in her blonde short hair.

‘He fell in love,’ Kade said and handed me the picture.

‘I don’t understand, how was that him walking off his path?’

‘He wasn’t supposed to find his mate. My grandfather, Santander, was supposed to go to war with his pack to help a fellow Alpha but instead he chose to go visit his friend, the Lycan king and in his pack he met his mate. The war never happened after that because Santander missed the mark, they won without him but he strayed from his path because that war would’ve done something for him,’

‘What?’

‘I think it would’ve killed him, that’s just what I think. His destiny wasn’t suposed to be on going but it was and he lived happier than he ever had,’

‘So sometimes it’s good to go against your destiny,’ I said and smiled.

‘It is but there are also consequences of going against something as strong as destiny and faith, you just don’t know what it is until you’ve made your choice,’ my eyes fell and I felt my shoulders slump.

‘Such as?’ I asked him.

‘In his case, after they had their children, a series of fights began to happen and attacks on the pack. They stopped only the day he died,’ that was weird but I could see it in Kade that he didn’t want to go into further detail about his grandfathers death and i respected that. His grandfather did however sound like one hell of a warrior and Alpha.

‘Let’s go, we’re meeting Anna and the others downstairs,’

I followed behind him down the stairs and saw Anna, Cara, Mason and Cara’s mate standing there. It just crossed my mind how I had no idea what his name was and I made a mental note to ask him later.

‘What’s going on?’ I asked and hugged Anna as she opened her arms.

Her lips were so widely spread in a smile that her teeth were completely visible and her nostrils were broad in anticipation.

‘They’re opening the gates!’ She jumped in the spot and grabbed my hands wanting me to jump with her.

‘Really?’ Kades lips pulled up and he nodded his head.

‘We have informed everyone of you two and prepared them for two new pack members as well as announced that you, Layla, are my mate.’

‘How did they take the news?’ i was wary for their reactions because I had experience from my former pack of how the she wolves reacted whenever someone got close to the Alpha. They all wanted him and I had a hard time thinking it was different here.

‘They are ecstatic,’ Cara said.

‘They all want to see their Alpha happy, this pack isn’t like others and you will see that but they are strong and don’t always take kindly on new comers. But nevertheless, they are very excited to meet you,’ her mate said.

‘I don’t think I introduced myself properly before, I’m Oscar,’ he said and reached out his hand. Me and Anna both shook it and smiled kindly at him. Oscar was nice and seemed a bit timid.

The doors were wide open and we walked outside onto the stone pathway but we didn’t go down the stairs.

‘OPEN THE GATES!’ I winced when Kade’s loud voice boomed over the land.

The gates slowly open with a raspy sound and one by one I started seeing people coming in. The warriors were running and bumping into each other as they hurried to the front. Kade placed his hand on my lower back on we walked down the stairs to meet them all.
