Rejected To Be Your Second Chance: Chapter 20

Locked & Loaded

Mason left, he went out to the others and asked me to ’please not go up on the fifth floor’. The problem however remained that I didn’t trust him right now. I didn’t know wether he had my best interest in heart or his brothers and if I were to guess, I would say his brother came first and I respected that.

But that also meant that I was on my own here. There was Anna but she was doing so well, she seemed so happy and I didn’t want to be the one to ruin that. The warriors would come soon and I didn’t want to sit here when they did.

Just as I reached my room i could hear the chatter getting louder. Everyone was piling in through the door ready to eat and then shower.

Hopefully Kade wouldn’t be coming in here and I could breath for a few minutes.

”Layla?” Too caught up in my own head I didn’t notice when someone opened the door. Anna walked in with a plate of food and carefully came to the sofa.

”Is it okay if I eat in here with you?”

”Of course,” I furrowed my brows and followed her hands as she placed the plate down on the table.

”Why would you even ask me that?” I asked when Anna sat.

”You locked yourself away so I assumed you wanted to be alone but I miss you,”

”I never want to be alone from you,” I said and smiled.

”How are you holding up?’ She asked and I looked to the closed door before turning in my seat so i faced her.

”There’s something I have to tell you but you have to promise that you won’t tell anyone!”

She nodded her head and placed her hands in her lap as she sat cross legged in front of me.

”The other day when I went to the den for some privacy, the weirdest shit happened. I lit a fire and it was like it came to life, it grew and started spitting everywhere and then I heard a voice.” Annas hed fell back and her eyes narrowed as her nose scrunched.

”A voice?”

”Yeah i know it sounds fucked up but it’s true. And the voice told me that I couldn’t trust Kade,”

”Seriously?” I nodded my head. ”Do you think maybe it was someone who wanted to ruin this for you? Maybe they weren’t actually trying to help you,”

”I don’t know honestly but it told me to look behind the locked doors and that doing so would prove it,”

”What locked doors?” She asked and a second later her eyes widened and she shook her head. ”On the fifth floor?” She gasped.

”Yes,”

”No, Layla, you’re not allowed up there and why would you want to put yourself through that? You’ll only end up hurt,”

”But isn’t it better that I know the full truth? Kade said that he didn’t think about her and that he only saw a future with me but i feel our bond, Anna, it’s not as strong as it should be and definitely not as strong as theirs was. What if this can give me answers? What if this proves that he’s being honest and I can let everything go?” The desperation in me grew and I was frantic. I needed to get up there and see what existed behind those doors, it was the only way for me to move on with a clear head. That was the only thing I could do to get answers on what to do next. I needed to know my next move.

”Alright, I understand. When do we go?” She asked and looked completely serious.

”No I’m going,” I said.

”I moved away from my family for you and left the pack to join a new one, you can’t push me out now. We’re in this together. If you were to see something there that makes you want to go, I’m leaving with you.”

”But you’ve really started to build a life for yourself here,” I smiled a half smile and looked at the twinkle in her eye.

”Yes because of you. This place would be nothing without you, it’s us, forever.”

Shit, i could feel the tears pushing up against my eyes.

”We need to wait until everyone’s out of the house, or at least Kade and his brother.”

”I heard during practice that they were going to another pack to meet with the Alpha. Some important meeting or something. It’ll be Kade, Mason and the head warrior and they’ll be gone until tomorrow.” My gut sunk and I leaned back. Anna furrowed her brows and leaned her head on her shoulder.

”what’s wrong?” She asked softly.

”He didn’t tell me that he was leaving,” I said and scoffed. Why did i care so much? Him not telling me that he was leaving for two days actually hurt, especially after everything that had happened.

”I’m sure it doesn’t mean anything and besides, that gives us time to check out the fifth floor.” Anna grabbed my hand and looked at me with determination. I nodded my head in agreeance and we started forming the plan.

We looked at the clock after having been in the room for the past few hours. It was five o’clock and Kade and Mason would’ve left by now. Me and Anna looked at each other and carefully stuck our heads out into the hallway. The warriors would be at afternoon practice until seven and Cara would be with them.

I waved my hand and Anna came tipping on her toes behind me.

”What are you doing?” I whispered and chocked back a laugh.

”I’m sneaking,” she whispered with eyes so wide she looked high.

The smell of detergent and lemon filled the fifth hallway as we walked up and I saw a few water drops on the railing.

”Someone just cleaned up here,” I said and chewed on my lip. Somehow that made it worse, knowing that they took such care of this place even today.

I shook my head and went under the rope. Anna followed behind me to the door and I jumped as I turned around and saw her less than an inch away from me. I scoffed and she took a tiny step back with a squeamish smile. My hand pressed on the handle and when it didn’t budge I looked around to see so no one was coming up here. I pressed harder and heard the crack and the door slid open.

”You broke it!” She whisper shouted at me and I shushed her.

”I’ll have him send me the bill,” but that was last thing on my mind when I turned back. I imagined many things would be behind the door but nothing like this. This was worse, much worse and it was only one of the locked doors.

Anna gasped behind me and we looked around the room.
