Rejected To Be Your Second Chance: Chapter 28

Bones Break, Hearts Shatter

”What the hell is this?” I asked as the door closed.

He stood up and came over to me.

”She just wants to stay for a few days, said she missed us and wanted to spend some time together.”

”And you told her no, right?” I asked and scanned his eyes.

Holy shit…

”Layla it’s not that easy,”

”Are you kidding me? You said that your ex mate could stay here? The woman that you have dedicated an entire fucking floor too?”

”It’s not like that. She doesn’t want me back she just wanted to see us again.”

”How can you be so delusional?” I breathed.

He was acting as though she hadn’t left him and broken his heart.

Kade didn’t speak and it was causing me more pain than if he were.

”Kade, she left, she caused you pain and now you’re inviting her back in?”

”She’s doesn’t want back in, she missed us. We were all really close at one point.”

”How dumb can you be!” I screamed in frustration and Kade’s brows furrowed.

”How would you feel if I had an ex who I allowed to stay with us in our home?” He looked down and shook his head.

”It’s just for a few days, I promise.”

They were all sitting in the dining room and had started eating. Me and Kade joined them and the head warriors weren’t there which was nice. This was awkward enough with just the six of us. Cara and Danielle were laughing and Anna sat with a scowl on her face.

Danielle stoped laughing and so did Cara when she saw my face. What was I thinking? How could I compete with this? She obviously knew them better, they loved her still and I was getting more and more sure that Kade did too.

Danielle looked at Kade and giggled.

”Did you keep the floor?” She asked with a soft smile. Everyone tensed including Kade who’s eyes flickered between me and her.

”For now.” She smiled and looked down at her food.

”I’m glad.” Her voice was warm and smooth, she could make anything sound sensual and loving.

”Do you remember the final falls?” She asked and beamed with joy as she looked at him. Mason started laughing and Caras eyes widened before she broke out in laughter as well.

”What’s that?” Anna asked sounding as uninterested as ever but Danielle explained anyways.

”There’s a waterfall a few miles away from here and when we were younger we’d go there after each school year and jump down.” I went against my better judgment and looked at Kade. He was smiling at the fond memory.

He looked down, his eyes took in my facial features and the smile disappeared.

”I remember.” He said and nodded his head as his brows bunched together.

”Maybe we can go there again? You two are of course welcome to join,” She said and looked between me and Anna.

The warriors came and everyone was shocked to see Danielle in the house but the second they saw her the word spread and all pack members gathered in and around the house to meet her. They were talking, reminiscing and laughing with each other like old friends normally would. I saw some sour faces amongst those who hated her for leaving Kade but mostly it was all very friendly.

The night fell slower than I would’ve wanted but eventually it did. I was in our room getting ready and Kade was taking a shower. There was a knock on the door and Kade walked out of the bathroom dressed in a pair a sweatpants and hurried to grab it.

”Sorry if I’m disturbing but could we talk?” The door was only open a few inches but I heard her voice. Kade looked back at me and I rose a brow.

”Yeah sure, I’ll bre right out.” He closed the door and the second I heard it shut I lost it.

”You’re not having a talk with her.” I said sternly.

”Layla calm down.”

”Calm down? You’re acting like a stuffed dog who has no say in anything, where the fuck is your spine?”

”It’s about respect!” He growled.

”Where’s your respect to me then?” His eyes fell but soon they hardened and he walked over to me.

”It’s a talk. This is probably weird for her too.”

”You’re not acting like it’s weird, you’re acting like you’ve been waiting for her to walk through those doors and come back to you.” I felt his fear and his guilt and he leaned down and placed a kiss on my cheek.

”It’s just a quick chat, I promise.” For the first time since I met him, his kiss disgusted me. I felt like a cheap doll he expected to wait around for him whilst he did whatever he pleased. Loyalty, respect and love, it all went out the window at the same time and I saw him in a completely different way.

I had fallen asleep but something woke me up. It was still dark out and when I turned to see what time it was it was one-thirty at night. Kades side was empty, he hadn’t come back which meant he had been with her for the past two and half hours.

I angrily wiped the tear that fell and grabbed my pillows.

I slowly turned the doorknob and saw that the light was on in her room. Anna turned her head and sat up in her bed.

”Hey,” she said and paused her film.

”Can I sleep here tonight?”

”Of course, I’ve missed our sleepovers.” She pulled away the comforter and I laid down.

”You couldn’t sleep either?” I asked her and she shook her head.

”I have a bad feeling, Layla. Danielle returning after everything that has happened, it can’t be a coincidence. Have you and Kade talked about it because he seems oddly calm?”

”I talk and he denies. He’s with her right now.” Her eyes widened and she shook her head and scoffed.

”That jackass,”

I burrowed into her side and we played the movie.

”You’re not gonna do something dumb, are you?” She asked me and I heard the worry in her voice.

”I haven’t decided yet.”
