Rejected To Be Your Second Chance: Chapter 30

Sweet Lies

I ran past him down the stairs.

”Layla no, wait!” The door to our room stood open and I ran inside thinking I could slam the door shut and be alone but oh boy was I wrong.

My body turned to ice and my mind was numb as I stood looking at Danielle sitting on the edge of the bed. Our bed..

”Kade asked me to wait here.” I felt his presence behind me and turned to see his pale face. All the color had drained from him and I felt the fear radiating from his body.

”Danielle, you need to leave this room.” He said and stared at her.

”Actually you both do.” I said and turned to face him. My nails were pressing into my palm and I was tensing my whole body to keep from falling down on the floor.

”No problem, come on,” Danielle said and gestured for Kade to go with her.

”No.” He spun me around and forced me to look into his eyes.

”Please let me explain.”

”I want you to leave,” Danielle came up beside him, her fingers slowly circled his shoulder and she leaned in.

”Give her some time.” He rose his head, his eyes slowly looking to where her hand was touching him.

”Layla,”

”Go!” Danielle fell back a step and Kade straightened up.

”I’ll be back. Take some time and then we’ll talk, alright?” I didn’t speak, not a word and I saw how scared he was but the deeper I looked the more I could feel his confusion.

”Please, just don’t go anywhere, stay here.” He was still trying to call the shots. Kade had no idea what he had brought down upon himself.

The door closed and I stared at the wooden panels.

’We’re leaving’ Clara growled and dragged her claws against the floor of my mind.

Yes we are

~Kade’s POV~

Fuck. I knew I’d messed up, big time but how the fuck do I fix this shit now? After Danielle left I never in my life saw myself having a mate again but then I met Layla and everything just started forming around her. That girl became my life in less than twenty-four hours but then I found out what she was. An Emberclaw.

”Kade,” that voice haunted my dreams ever since the day she left and my heart had been torn since she came back.

”Everything will be okay,” I turned around and faced her. Danielle smiled and her eyes were just as loving as I remember them when she looked into mine.

”You can’t do that anymore.” I took a step closer to her. Danielle’s face dropped and her mouth fell open.

”I wasn’t-”

”You were and I’m telling you that it won’t work. I worked on a lot of things after you left to make sure that history would not repeat itself.” She raised her hand and cupped my cheek. Under Danielle’s touch everything else faded away.

”Why haven’t you told her?” That right there was a real good question. There was a lot I hadn’t told Layla but I didn’t know why.

”Maybe you’re not over what has been. I’ve spent everyday thinking about how things would be today if I hadn’t left you.” She leaned closer, her lips edged toward my own and I could smell the perfume that I remember used to stick to the pillows in our room.

”But you did.” I grabbed her hand and slowly moved it away from my face. Danielle didn’t stop, she moved closer and parted her lips.

”I’m back.” But she left. I thought to myself and stepped back, my eyes narrowed on Danielle and she shrugged off the rejection and smiled.

”Are you telling me that you kept the rooms on the fifth floor exactly how we decorated them because you were sentimental? I think that you knew I’d come back one day and that they would come to use. I’m here now and I promise you that I won’t leave again.” Her thick blonde hair was half over her shoulder and I remember dragging my hands through it and pressing her up against the wall the first day we met.

”You left, Danielle and there was a reason for that. I’m with Layla-” my eyes widened.

Shit.

”Layla.” I said and ran out of the office. I bolted up the stairs when all of the images from Layla and I came flooding back. What the fuck had I done? I chose another woman over the one I loved.

Danielle being back didn’t give me any right to treat Layla like shit but still I had complete ignored each request she made. In Layla’s head I must’ve chosen Danielle over her.

I slammed the door open and held out my hand as it hit against the wall and bounced back.

The room was empty, she wasn’t here.

”Layla?”

I looked in the bathroom and the closet for her clothes and some where there but most where gone. The long floral skirt she had from her mother was gone and she wouldn’t go anywhere without it.

”Layla!”

”Is everything alright?” Mason came running into the room and Danielle stood there as well looking unbothered.

”Maybe it’s for the best,” she said and stepped towards me. My eyes glowed as my wolf stepped up and she stopped.

”Not another step.” I growled.

I looked at my brother and saw someone walking down the stairs behind him. She was walking slowly with her arms dangling by her sides.

I pushed past everyone and saw Anna approaching us.

”Where is she?” I asked and looked at her lifeless eyes.

”Gone and I don’t blame her.” Anna’s eyes were red and puffy from crying. Her best friend had left and it was all my fault.

”Kade,” Danielle came walking out. Anna growled and narrowed her eyes to slits.

”This is your fault!” She growled and jumped at Danielle who only smiled.

I grabben Anna and held her back. She shrugged out of my hold and turned that glare on me.

”It’s your fault too and I hope that you never get to see her again!” She seethed.

I slowly turned, my face void of emotion and my mind only focused on one thing; finding where my mate was.

My eyes locked down on her and she gulped. Danielle took a small step back but kept her composure.

”What did you do?” I asked and she shook her head.

”I didn’t-”

”Lying is the last thing you want to right now, Danielle. What did you do?”

She raised her head and hardened her gaze.

”You blocked me out from seeing your memories so I’m guessing she never saw them either.” She cooed.

”It’s a shame you didn’t trust her, you know that trust is the foundation of any health relationship. Without it, someone could come to make horrible decisions.” My hands flew out and I held her pinned up against the wall with my fingers wrapped around her throat.

”WHAT DID YOU DO?”

”I did what I was told!” I released a breath and Danielle slammed my hand away and landed on her feet.

”But I meant what I said, I’m here to stay. I’m here for you, Kade.”
