The Secret Fiancée: Chapter 43

Raya

Lex caresses my thigh over my black pencil skirt as we drive to his office together, completely unconcerned about the deep maroon wig I’m wearing. Since he refused to part ways with me this morning and I refused to be seen with him on my first day at work, we ended up compromising.

“You do realize people think I’ve been cheating on my poor wife this whole time, thanks to your…” he gestures toward my hair, “ferrets.”

I gasp and push his hand off my leg. “My what?” I ask, outraged as I pull down the shade to check the mirror. He chuckles when I smoothen my very expensive and very beautiful lace wig, my favorite out of all of them. It’s the one I wear most frequently, and it drives The Herald crazy.

“I see the red hair turned you even feistier than normal.” His gaze roams over my face, and he smirks as he places his palm on my knee. “Let’s see if that feistiness lasts when I bend you over my desk and spread these pretty legs. I need a picture of you for my private collection, my cock in your sexy wet mouth and that red hair bringing out that blush so fucking beautifully.”

His hand slips up and between my legs, and he squeezes my thigh possessively. The combination of his words and the way he looks at me makes me blush fiercely, and he laughs. “I love how shy you still get, when you were begging me to let you come last night.”

I glare at my husband, my face no doubt as crimson as my hair. “I had no choice,” I snap. “You made me delirious with need. You tortured me.”

His hand slips under my skirt, and I gasp when he places his pinky right against the lace between my legs. “I beg to differ,” he says, his voice deep, irresistible. “was the one being tortured, my little fairy. It’s fucking torture having your delicious pussy on my tongue and hearing you moan my name the way you do. Fuck. You’re my addiction, Raya. I’d live off your pussy if I could.”

His gaze cuts to mine, and he raises a brow. “Do you think I could? How nutritious do you reckon your pussy is?”

I gape at him and push my fist against his arm. “Oh, stop it!” I say, even as a peal of laughter falls from my lips. “I do realize what you’re doing, you know?”

He smiles so sweetly as he turns into the parking garage for Windsor Motors, driving straight to his designated spot. “Of course you do,” he murmurs, turning toward me the moment he’s parked the car. “No one knows me like you do, after all.”

His gaze becomes haunted for a moment, but then he pushes his unease aside. Lex cups my cheek, and I sigh, my nerves finally catching up to me. “I’m scared,” I admit. I know he’s trying his best to distract me from my thoughts this morning, but I can’t help but feel a little conflicted about my first day. “Working for Windsor Motors… it feels like both a dream and a betrayal. I always thought I’d go work for my dad as soon as classes ended, even before I formally graduated, but here I am, about to start an internship at Windsor Motors instead. And I… I just don’t know if I’m good enough to be here, and I know you’ll tell me that I am, but you’re biased, and even though you deny it, I know I’m only here because I’m your wife.”

His thumb brushes over my mouth, and he sighs before leaning in to press a soft, sweet kiss to my lips. “Darling,” he whispers. “You own this company as much as I do. What’s mine is yours, Raya. No one has more right to be here than you do. Soon, once the merger goes through, there won’t be a difference between Windsor and Lewis Motors, and you’ll work with your father, just like you both always wanted to.” His hand moves to my chin, and he grips my face, keeping my eyes on his. “As for qualifications… you are, quite literally, the top student in almost all of your classes. This isn’t favoritism, Raya. You’re simply brilliant, and you’d have been chosen even if you weren’t my wife. If anything, I’m the one that’s in luck here. If you weren’t my wife, Windsor Motors may never have had the opportunity to benefit from that beautiful mind of yours. You’d absolutely have chosen your father’s company over any other opportunity.”

I sigh and lean in, my hand wrapping around the back of his neck. He seems to firmly believe every word he says, and that’s the part I don’t quite understand. Why does this incredible man think so highly of me? “Give me a dose of good luck,” I whisper, my lips brushing against his. “I’ll need it. I heard my boss is a right tool.”

Lex bursts out laughing, and I shut him up with a kiss, loving the way he instantly unbuckles my seatbelt to pull me closer. His hand wraps into my wig, and he groans when I pull away, every bit as reluctant as he is.

“I can’t be late for work on my first day,” I tell him, pushing against his chest.

His hands move to my waist, and he sends me the cutest pleading look. “Which part of ‘you own the company as much as I do’ did you not understand?” he asks, his voice soft, cajoling. I love how easy things have become between us lately. We haven’t spoken about it much, but we’re both trying a little harder than we did before, casting aside our fears for a chance at true happiness.

“Don’t even try it,” I tell him, laughing as I push off him and move to get out of the car, my gaze moving around furtively.

“Little fairy,” he calls after me once I’ve stealthily gotten out of his car and made it halfway toward the entrance. “This is a restricted area.” He tips his head towards the barrier behind us. “Only Windsor family members and Silas Sinclair can get past that access barrier.”

I stare at him incredulously. “So, you saw me get out of the car like some kind of weirdo and didn’t think to tell me that then?”

He grins as he saunters up to me, clearly exceptionally amused with himself this morning. I’d be annoyed if this weren’t the first time in weeks that he’s seemed this lighthearted and happy. “I thought you were putting on a show for me. I never know with you, darling.”

The look on my face makes him laugh, and he grabs my hand as he pulls me along. “Don’t worry. This is a private lobby with an elevator that leads straight to my office. It’s highly secure.”

“Again — you saw me put this wig on this morning and didn’t think to tell me?” I throw him a hateful little glare as we step into his elevator together.

His gaze roams over my face hungrily, and I inhale sharply when he corners me with his body, the elevator’s cold metal against my back. “Of course not. You look fucking gorgeous with that red hair. You think I’d deprive myself of such a pretty sight?” His index finger loops around the chain that holds my wedding ring, and he pulls on it. “I have no intention of depriving myself of anything that belongs to me.” His face tips down, his lips brushing against mine. I inhale sharply, and he smiles. “And you, Raya Windsor? You’re mine.”

Lex groans as he kisses me, his touch filled with more need than usual, and I rise to my tiptoes, kissing him back with all I’ve got. “Yours,” I whisper as I pull back, quietly reassuring him. “Always yours, Lex.”

The doors open straight into his office, and he smiles relaxedly as he grabs my hand and pulls me into his beautiful corner office. Pippy’s voice welcomes us overhead. “Welcome to work, Lex and Mrs. Windsor,” she says, sounding far too chirpy, almost like she knows she’s defying me by still not calling me by my name.

I throw my husband a panicked glare. “You told me you’d fix that!”

He just shrugs and watches in fascination as I pull off my wig, revealing my long, dark hair. Lex raises a brow and sighs as he holds out his hand. “Just give me the damn ferret,” he mutters. “It’s enough that the whole world will think I’m having countless affairs. The last thing I need is additional rumors about how my wife murdered my mistresses and carries their heads.”

I hold up my wig and stare at it. “Fair,” I mutter as I hand it over. “I can see those trash Herald reporters coming up with something as dumb as that.”

My eye twitches as he carelessly throws it in a drawer, but I manage to restrain my temper as he checks his watch, reminding me of the time.

“Ready to meet your team, darling?”
