True Luna: The Darkness Within: Chapter 38

Did It Work?

Alexander’s POV

I was going to go insane.

For real this time. I was going to freak the fuck out and my parents would have to lock me up somewhere. I would be known as Mad Alpha. Or Insane Alpha. Or Batshit Crazy Alpha. Or Crazy As Fuc…

“Will you stop it?” Mason mumbled with a hint of annoyance in his voice. “My head hurts from watching you walk around in circles.”

I narrowed my eyes and clenched my fists.

“Look away then,” I told him angrily.

“She is going to be okay, sweetie,” my mom said, making me look at her. “I have a good feeling about this.”

Stella said the same.

Why didn’t I believe it then? Why did I have a feeling that was the last time I saw her? Why did I have a feeling that I was going to lose my twin forever?

‘Shut up!’ Axel screamed at me. ‘That is just your fear talking! We won’t lose her!’

I gulped and tried to take a deep breath.

“He did it,” Alpha Nathan mumbled, making us all look at him.

He took a deep breath and smiled a little.

“He marked her,” he said, making my heart stop beating.

We were all frozen for a few seconds, but then we moved at the same time. I was the closest to the cabin entrance and I was the first one who barged inside.

My heart was racing as I approached the window.

What would I see? Would I see that thing again? Did it work? Would I see my Fia?

Oh, Goddess, please let me see my Fia!

I could feel my heartbeat in my throat as I finally reached the window and looked inside the room. I was sure that my heart would jump out of my mouth.

My sister was lying on the bed and it looked like she was asleep. Hunter was kneeling next to her. He was holding her hand in his and he was kissing it repeatedly.

Why was she asleep?!

“Fia!” I screamed as I rushed toward the door and ran inside the room.

Hunter looked up at me and I saw fear in his eyes.

I rushed to her and cupped her cheeks.

“Fia!” I shouted, trying to get her to wake up.

Why wasn’t she waking up?!

“You need to leave the room,” I heard Anna’s voice and an involuntary growl escaped me.

I looked up and saw my parents, uncle, and Mason standing behind me, looking at Sophia worriedly. Anna and Alpha Nathan were standing by the door.

“Are you fucking insane?!” I screamed. “I am not leaving her!”

Anna sighed. “We talked about this, Alex. We can’t be sure if the mark will work. You need to leave.”

Anger exploded inside me. I didn’t know that she wouldn’t wake up!

“Anna is right, honey,” my mom said, her voice trembling. “We need to leave until she wakes up.”

I looked at my mom and my eyes widened.

“You never said that she wouldn’t wake up right away!” I shouted. “Why isn’t she waking up?! We can’t leave her like this!”

My mom gulped and looked at Sophia. Her eyes filled with tears.

“We couldn’t have known what would happen,” my mom said, keeping her eyes on my sister. “We still don’t know and that’s why we have to leave.”

I growled and looked back at Fia. Hunter was hugging her. He was mumbling something into her ear.

I couldn’t leave her. I simply couldn’t.

“Come on, bud,” my dad said as he put a hand on my shoulder. “We will be right outside.”

Hunter looked at me and I could tell that he didn’t want to leave her either. He closed his eyes, kissed her forehead, and stood up.

“Come on, Alex,” Hunter said, his voice breaking. “We need to leave.”

I looked down at her and I had to hold back a sob.

“I am sorry, Fia,” I said as I leaned in and kissed her cheek. “I will be right outside, okay? You are not alone.”

I forced myself to stand up. My parents wrapped their arms around me and we took a second to look at her.

“Let’s go, sweetie,” my mom said as she took my hand in hers.

We started walking away from her and I was sure that my heart would give out.

What if she woke up with darkness still inside her? What if this was the last time I was near her?

Axel whined and his pain washed over me.

‘Can you talk to Stella?’ I asked, hoping that he would say yes.

‘No,’ he said and my heart broke into a million tiny pieces.

Did we lose them both?

I watched as my dad closed and locked the door. I watched as my mom mumbled a spell. I watched as the door glistened.

I couldn’t breathe. I couldn’t feel my body.

“Axel can’t talk to Stella,” I mumbled, not even recognizing my own voice.

Hunter grunted in pain. My parents gasped quietly. Mason and my uncle cursed loudly.

“Did we just lose them both?” I asked quietly, making Hunter growl.

“No!” he shouted as he approached me and grabbed my shoulders. “They are not gone! She isn’t gone!”

I didn’t respond. I couldn’t. I turned away from him and walked toward the window. I leaned my forehead against it and tried to breathe.

She was still asleep. She didn’t move since we walked out of the room.

“You didn’t lose her, Alex,” Anna said softly. “Give it time. Getting rid of darkness isn’t an easy process. It takes time.”

I gulped and tightened my jaw.

“How much time?” I asked, my voice quiet and raspy.

Anna sighed but remained silent. I felt a hand on my back and I glanced to my left. My mom was standing next to me, looking at Sophia with worry written all over her face.

“We can’t know that for sure, honey,” my mom said. “It could be hours or it could be days.”

My mom looked up at me and caressed my cheek.

“Let’s hope it will be hours,” she said as she looked back at Sophia.

I hoped it would be minutes. I hoped that she would open her eyes at any moment and look up at me. I hoped that she would call me Lex and that I would break down those doors to get inside and hold her.

I couldn’t wait for hours and I most certainly couldn’t wait for days.

She had to wake up as soon as possible.
