What Happens in Vegas: Chapter 31

Gia

My phone pinged from where it sat on the nightstand. It was the third time in the last few minutes. I looked over at Trent, who was still sound asleep. Dawn was barely breaking, the sky a bluish gray, which meant we had at least another hour before getting me back to Mystique to shower and change for work. After today, there’d be no more back and forth. I’d be able to relax and drink my coffee on the balcony.

I settled into the silk sheets. Whoever was trying to reach me could wait.

Ping!

“For Christ’s sake,” I mumbled. There was no sense in trying to go back to sleep. I grabbed my phone and went out to the front room so it didn’t wake Trent. It rang and Penny’s name popped up on the screen. “It’s too early,” I answered with a yawn.

“Sorry. Did you see my messages?”

“Not yet. What is it?”

“You need to look right now. I’ll wait.”

I clicked into my text messages.

Penny: Are you awake?

Penny: Wake up!

Penny: We’ve got a problem!!!!

The last message had a link attached. I clicked on it and watched in horror. “Oh, my god!”

“Gia? Gia? Talk to me!”

I lifted the phone to my ear. “How?”

“It came through my email a few minutes ago. It was sent to everyone in our office.”

Shock. I was definitely in shock. “Who? How?”

“It came from Trent.”

I looked back to the bedroom. “But I’ve been with him all night.”

“I don’t know, girl.”

My head spun. There was no way. I’d been played. “How quick can you pick me up from Trent’s?”

“I can be there in ten minutes.”

“I’ll meet you out front.”

I gambled my reputation, my job, and my heart… and I lost everything.
